“It was with great sorrow that my husband Jean-Daniel Lafond and I learned, while at the Citadelle of Québec, of the terrible tragedy now facing the families, loved ones and comrades of Corporal Glen Arnold, of 2nd Field Ambulance, and of Corporal Shane Keating, Corporal Keith Morley and Private David Byers, all with the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. These soldiers lost their lives while conducting a foot patrol in the Panjwayi District of Kandahar Province.

Our thoughts also go out to our Canadian soldiers injured during the incident and to the innocent Afghan victims of this senseless act.

As they stand together during this difficult time, our Canadian troops today mourn the loss of their four comrades. They know the importance of their mission, that its goal is to help the Afghan people find peace, security and justice.

We honour the families and loved ones who are grieving this terrible loss.”
