Message from the Governor General of Canada Following the Announcement of the Chief Justice of Canada's Retirement

OTTAWA—Chief Justice McLachlin has served Canada with great dedication and distinction for almost four decades. As the first female chief justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as the Court’s longest-serving chief justice, she has been a ground-breaking and an influential leader. Her achievements and leadership are widely admired everywhere in Canada and around the world. Her legacy will influence generations to come.
