Message from the Governor General of Canada
on the Occasion of International Volunteer Day

BOGOTÁ—As we celebrate International Volunteer Day, I am delighted to recognize the wonderful work of volunteers and supporters who, in their community, province or abroad, are giving of their time, talent or money to improve the lives of those in need.

You have likely heard the expressions “a good deed is never wasted” and “one good turn deserves another.” I have witnessed these truths first hand countless times during my visits across our country, where the generosity, compassion and empathy of Canadians have always impressed me. From the outset of my mandate as governor general, I have looked for ways to encourage others to give so that we might widen the reach of our caring and help build a better world.

On this special day, I would like to challenge you, fellow citizens, to invite your families, friends and loved ones to become agents of change by joining you in donating or volunteering. Together, let us take the Dare2Give challenge!
