Message from the Governor General to Canadian Athletes
Competing in the London 2012 Paralympic Games

OTTAWA— On behalf of all Canadians, I want to extend my greetings to our Paralympians in London. I look forward to following your progress and to celebrating your successes.

Each of you is an ambassador for Canada on the world stage, and a true inspiration for Canadians at home and abroad.

Your very presence at the Games in London is the result of a great amount of training and perseverance. Each and every one of you is an outstanding athlete.

Physical activity plays an important role in our health and well-being as Canadians, and you know this better than most.

Your pursuit of excellence inspires others to get involved in sport and to push their boundaries, and you bring us together as Canadians. In this, you are helping to build the smarter, more caring nation of which we dream.

Know that many Canadians—myself included—will be watching and cheering you on.

I wish you the best of luck as you prepare to compete in the Paralympic Games. And remember, as you take on the world in England— the birthplace of the modern Paralympic movement—you have all Canadians behind you.
