OTTAWA, Ontario—As the year draws to a close, I would like to thank all members of the Canadian Armed Forces for their dedication to our country.
Each of you contributes to Canada’s positive international influence.
You bring security to regions shaken by conflict. You foster international relationships and alliances that are crucial for maintaining global peace and stability.
This year, I had the honour of celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force with its members and veterans. I attended the raising of a new standard for the Canadian Special Operations Regiment, which has made exceptional contributions in some of the most unstable regions on Earth, including Afghanistan.
In November, at the National Indigenous Defence Conference, I highlighted the contributions of thousands of Indigenous peoples who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces throughout history. The stories of Inuit serving with the Canadian Rangers in the North, and of so many Indigenous war heroes, will remain with me.
As commander-in-chief of Canada, I want to thank you all for your exemplary service and for the sacrifices you make in the performance of your duties.
Wherever you are, I wish you happy holidays and best wishes for 2025.
Mary Simon
