OTTAWA— An expression of diversity and dialogue, of co-operation and understanding, Journée  internationale de la Francophonie reminds us that around the world, in a language at once colourful and precise, poetic and learned, strong bonds of friendship and solidarity are being forged that allow us to believe in, reinvent and build a better world.

The hardships that we are facing in these difficult times, not least of which is the global economic crisis, call on us to learn lessons, to rethink how we do things and to turn more than ever to those inclusive values, that spirit of reciprocity, compassion and community that drive La Francophonie.

May this March 20 be an opportunity to realize and celebrate everything that binds us to one another, everything that we share, our strong desire and our capacity to move forward and work together. And may the family that is La Francophonie continue to grow and broaden our horizons, humanize our relationships and build new bridges between generations, our communities and our peoples!
