Today, it is with great pride that I become an honorary member of the Royal 22e Régiment.
Your regiment’s history is unlike any other in Canada.
From World War I to United Nations and NATO missions, the “Van Doos” have embodied excellence and heroism.
Your influence has extended from Europe to Indochina, and from the Middle East to the far reaches of the world.
You have also long offered your services as aides-de-camp to the governors general in Ottawa.
I have had the opportunity to work with some of you, and I have greatly appreciated your discipline and dedication.
Thank you for representing the passion of French Canadians in defending our values: peace, democracy, diversity, freedom.
You make our country proud.
