OTTAWA, Ontario— Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will not attend the National Remembrance Day Ceremony due to a respiratory virus. The Governor General is doing well and is recovering in hospital. We appreciate your understanding and respect for her privacy at this time.
The Right Honourable Richard Wagner, P.C., Deputy of the Governor General and Chief Justice of Canada, will attend the ceremony organized by The Royal Canadian Legion at the National War Memorial in Ottawa on her behalf. He will be joined by this year’s National Silver Cross Mother, Mrs. Nancy Payne, of Lansdowne, Ontario.
Mrs. Payne will place a wreath on behalf of all Canadian mothers who have lost a child in military service to Canada.
