It was with deep sadness that we learned of the Royal Canadian Navy sailor who tragically lost their life in a devastating accident in the Bedford Basin, Halifax on Friday, January 24, 2025.

My husband, Whit and I extend our deepest condolences to the sailor’s family, friends, and colleagues. Our thoughts are also with the other sailor who survived this accident.

This tragic incident serves as a poignant reminder of the risks our members of the Canadian Armed Forces face every day to protect our nation. We are profoundly grateful for their unwavering dedication and service to Canada.

I also want to express my sincere gratitude to all the first responders who bravely assisted in the rescue efforts.

On behalf of my husband, Whit and all Canadians, our hearts go out to the entire Canadian Armed Forces during this difficult time.
