Governor General to celebrate Canadian literary excellence

April 15, 2025

Ottawa, Ontario—Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, will present Canada’s top literary honours during the Governor General’s Literary Awards ceremony at Rideau Hall.

The prestigious Governor General’s Literary Awards—also known as GGBooks—are overseen by the Canada Council for the Arts. This award recognizes the most notable English-language and French-language books in seven categories: fiction, poetry, drama, non-fiction, young people’s literature–text, young people’s literature–illustrated books, and translation. The award-winning books demonstrate how literature helps define the Canadian experience while connecting people from all parts of the country and walks of life.
