Message from the Governor General of Canada
on the Occasion of the Science Odyssey
OTTAWA—This year marks the evolution of National Science and Technology Week into Science Odyssey, taking place May 6–15, 2016. I am delighted to highlight this collaborative event being led by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council.
I am proud to see that world-class research and innovation are most assuredly not lacking in this country. Consider that in 2015, no fewer than 24 Canadians won prestigious international awards and prizes in science, engineering, health, medicine, the social sciences and humanities. In a world characterized by new technologies and a wide range of complex, interconnected challenges, it is vital that we underscore Canadian talent in these areas, both here in Canada and abroad.
Science Odyssey celebrates the outstanding work of our scientific community. Canadian excellence will be showcased through a series of interesting activities designed to engage and inspire kids and the general public while encouraging them to discover all that these fields have to offer. I would therefore like to invite all Canadians to make the most of this opportunity to learn more about these fascinating disciplines.
I wish you all a wonderful Science Odyssey!
