Message from the Governor General of Canada
on the Occasion of National Health and Fitness Day

OTTAWA—As an avid sports and physical activities enthusiast, I am delighted to celebrate National Health and Fitness Day.

Taking care of ourselves, keeping active and in good shape: what a great way to enrich our lives! When we take part in physical activities, we improve our health and well-being, strengthen our ability to work as a team and develop a sense of personal success. International sporting events like the upcoming Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in August and September, respectively, also bring us together as a country as we cheer on our athletes and show our Canadian pride.

The benefits of sport are many and varied, but there is one simple yet especially important reason to engage in physical activity: the sheer pleasure!

Whether individually or in the company of friends, let’s make the most of this wonderful opportunity to celebrate health and fitness.
