Message from the Governor General of Canada
on the Occasion of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day
OTTAWA— I am delighted to extend greetings to everyone celebrating Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day today.
In Quebec and in communities right across this country, festive traditions have taken root in the form of concerts, performances and parades. This day is an opportunity for everyone who identifies with the French language to celebrate a history, culture and character as intricate and varied as the accents echoing from our Francophone communities.
Today’s festivities are also a tribute to the diversity of the francophonie, allowing us to commemorate the richness of our collective heritage and come together to celebrate a magnificent language.
I wish you all a wonderful Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day!
