Message from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston,
Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada,
to Members of the Canadian Armed Forces
OTTAWA— As commander-in-chief of Canada, it gives me great pleasure to extend my best wishes for the holiday season to the soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen of the Canadian Armed Forces.
I would also like to convey my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your readiness to serve, your steadfast dedication, and the many sacrifices that you and your families have made over the past year, in service to our nation and to humanity.
Yours is not an easy task; being a member of the Canadian Armed Forces is more than just a job, as you well know. You work courageously to help others, to uphold our democratic values and to serve our ideals of justice and peace, oftentimes under difficult and dangerous conditions or while away from your loved ones. You bear the tremendous responsibilities of your positions with caring and loyalty. Whether you are currently in Canada or serving abroad, hold fast to the knowledge that you have earned the respect and admiration of Canadians.
During this time of celebration, I wish health, happiness and joy to every member of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families!
David Johnston
