Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
A specialized educator for adolescents with behavioural and learning disorders for the past 26 years, Lucien Desmarais has, since 1985, also devoted more than 2,500 hours as a volunteer at Jean Lapointe House for the rehabilitation of substance abusers. Without such personal contributions, Jean Lapointe House could not have fulfilled its mission. He is known amongst his fellow volunteers as a symbol of constancy, stability and reliability. For those he cares for, he is appreciated for his discretion, his openness and for listening. He is a dedicated teacher, always ready to lend a hand in unseen ways in his school and for his students.
