Since 2012, Donald Ward has volunteered with Friends of Keewatin, where he uses his artistic talents to help raise funds for and awareness of the museum ship. He has also helped promote remembrance through various positions with the Royal Canadian Legion Port McNicoll Branch 545, and has organized fundraising events for Veterans Emergency Transition Services Canada.
