In 1994, Elke Dettmer co-founded the East Coast Trail Association to develop and maintain a network of hiking paths along the eastern edge of the Avalon Peninsula. She has been instrumental in raising the Trail’s profile as a unique wilderness experience, and has enhanced its international image by promoting it during her travels abroad.
