Maria Chaput is an icon of the Franco-Manitoban community. Widely recognized for her community involvement, she has tirelessly advocated the rights of Francophone minorities and championed the French fact in western Canada, particularly the need for a dynamic and effective education system. The first Franco-Manitoban woman to serve as a senator, she has made official languages her top priority. She has worked to modernize federal legislation to ensure more equitable access to government services and more adequate representation for linguistic minorities.
