In addition to her work as Head of the Law Library at the University of New Brunswick, she took up the cause of educating and sensitizing Canadians to the human cost of family violence. She played a pivotal role in the formation of the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation and its Centre for Family Violence Research. She also founded the first shelter in the province for battered women and their children, which sparked a proliferation of similar vital facilities across the country.
