As the longtime head librarian, she made Toronto's Parkdale Public Library the user-friendly hub of a diverse ethnic and socio-economic community. The literacy outreach, social action and learning programs she founded for all ages, from pre-schoolers to senior citizens, have become prototypes for other libraries, and the Black Heritage and West Indian Collection she amassed is one of the finest in Canada. A gifted storyteller, by weaving together the oral and written word, she has opened the magic world of books to her listeners, giving them the tools to pursue their hopes and dreams.
