Garnette Sutherland's innovation has contributed to dramatic improvements in the safety and success of brain surgeries. Professor at the University of Calgary's Department of Neurosurgery and a leading practitioner, he developed a computerized surgical system that uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and robotic arms to map and treat brain disease. Respected by his peers, he has also served the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, chaired a review committee for Novo Nordisk, and founded three Canadian companies.
