From June 2019 to October 2020, Lieutenant-Colonel Courty was deployed to Juba as Operation SOPRANO Task Force commander and as deputy chief of the Mission Support Centre of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan. Through his remarkable leadership, diplomacy and work ethics under extremely trying circumstances, the Mission was the first authorized to resume rotations under the complex COVID-19 restrictions. Lieutenant-Colonel Courty’s outstanding performance during his deployment brought great honour to the Canadian Armed Forces and strengthened Canada’s reputation within the United Nations.
