Without financial compensation for a period of nearly three years, Vincent Courtenay immersed himself in the conception, development and planning of a permanent memorial to honour the sacrifice of the Canadian soldiers who gave their lives during the Korean conflict. In addition, Mr. Courtenay spearheaded the fundraising of $150,000, and acted as project officer and artistic director for the realization of this endeavour. Thanks to his hard work and personal devotion, the Monument to the Canadian Fallen, which he personally designed, was officially unveiled within the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Pusan, Korea, on November 11, 2001.
