Constable Ken DeCloet, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
On November 28, 2010, Constable Ken DeCloet, of the Ontario Provincial Police, risked his life in an attempt to rescue a woman from a burning house, in Norfolk County, Ontario. Constable DeCloet was the first responder to arrive at the scene when he was advised by family members that a woman was still inside. Using a fire extinguisher, he began to battle the blaze in an effort to gain entry, but was pushed back by the intensity of the heat and flames. He made a second attempt to enter but had to retreat again after receiving minor burns to his face and hands. Firefighters arrived and were able to bring the woman outside; sadly, she did not survive.
