On August 4, 2010, 15-year-old Brandon Wheeler rescued a friend from a possible drowning in Lake Ontario, in Cobourg, Ontario. The friends had been spending the afternoon jumping off a pier when the victim found himself too far from shore. The waves were much larger there and, fighting to stay afloat, the victim yelled for help. Brandon jumped off the pier and swam to reach the boy, who was nearly 30 metres away. Despite the risk of his friend possibly panicking and pulling him under, Brandon fought against the strong current to bring him safely to shore.
