Mayer Yacowar, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
On September 30, 2010, Mayer Yacowar risked his life to rescue two people from a possible drowning off the coast of Turks and Caicos, in the Caribbean Islands. The man and his wife had been snorkeling with others from their tour boat when they got caught in the large ocean swells, a great distance from the boat. Mr. Yacowar, who was snorkeling nearby with his six-year-old son, saw them waving for help. Unable to get the attention of their guides aboard the boat, he swam out to assist the stranded couple. In a partially deflated life jacket, he struggled in the violent waves, towing the exhausted couple back to the tour boat, while his son swam in front of them, yelling out words of encouragement.
