On October 13, 1998, David Cosh saved a man from a fiery death in Winsloe, Prince Edward Island. Mr. Cosh was driving by when he saw thick black smoke pouring out of a neighbour's house. He first tried to go in by the front door but was driven back by a wall of flames. Mr. Cosh then raced to the backyard. He crawled inside and, although the flames had spread across the ceiling, felt his way through the smoke until he located the victim seated on the kitchen floor. When the intoxicated man refused to leave, he dragged him to the door where others helped complete the rescue as Mr. Cosh was suffering from smoke inhalation.
