Medal of Bravery
On February 9, 1997, the combined actions of Harry Johnson and Rick Wesley saved a three-year-old girl from a house fire in Kispiox Village, Hazelton, British Columbia. Informed that the child was trapped in a neighbour's house, Mr. Wesley raced up the stairs where he found himself engulfed in smoke. In zero visibility, he called to the child and followed the sound of her cries until he found her hiding under a living room table. Mr. Wesley covered her with his jacket and started to retreat but became disoriented. Unable to breathe, he called for help. Mr. Johnson heard his plea and was able to locate him and the child by groping along the walls. Shortly after Mr. Johnson had guided them to safety, the entire house was engulfed in flames.
