Medal of Bravery
On April 16, 1997, Michel Ingram and Barry Tait rescued Ms. Ingram's 11-year-old son from her burning house at 16 Mile, a small community north of Cache Creek, British Columbia. Ms. Ingram was awakened at midnight by raging winds and realized that the outside of her house and surrounding trees were ablaze. She ran to Mr. Tait's house for help. Together, they made their way through her smoke-filled kitchen and up the stairs to the child's room. While Ms. Ingram led her son towards the exit, Mr. Tait used his body to shield them from the intense heat and spreading flames. Moments after they were safe, the house burned to the ground.
