Star of Courage
Terrance Creelman and Robert Bell made a brave attempt to rescue a boy from drowning on 27 June 1973. The boy, aged twelve had fallen into the Grand River while fishing from a dam. Mr. Creelman, seeing that the boy made no headway against the current, dived clothed into the river. For a moment he was able to hold the victim up but they were soon separated. Mr. Bell then swam out to the boy who was then some distance downstream. Drawn under by the boy's struggles, Mr. Bell lost his hold and, exhausted, was pulled out of the water by fishermen. Sadly, the boy was drowned, as was Mr. Creelman while he tried to regain the dam.
