Medal of Bravery
On 16 August 1978, Andrew Burke and Wayne Wellman rescued a woman from a burning sports car which had gone out of control and rolled into a ditch at Stirling. She had been thrown from the car and was trapped under its front section. Her cries were heard by both Mr. Burke and Mr. Wellman, who lived in the vicinity, and when they arrived on the scene the car was already on fire. In spite of imminent danger of explosion they lifted the car; but the woman had not the strength to crawl out from under it. Mr. Wellman then held it up while Mr. Burke pulled her free. Shortly afterwards the car was totally destroyed.
