Late in the evening of May 18, 1989, at McLeod Lake, British Columbia, Bradley Ernest Dixon rescued two people from a submerged vehicle. Mr. Dixon was driving behind a truck which veered off the road and plunged into the lake. Mr. Dixon stopped his car, descended to the shoreline and swam to the rescue. He opened the door of the sinking vehicle with difficulty and pulled a man out of the cab. While the man held on to the truck, Mr. Dixon pulled out a female passenger, revived her and brought her back to shore. Mr. Dixon saw that the male victim, who had also started to swim towards the shore, was experiencing difficulties and swam back to help him.
