On June 14, 1994, Mr. Decloet saved a baby from a house fire at Langton, Ontario. Another man had just rescued another child from the house when Mr. Decloet arrived on the scene. He immediately went to help find the second child, the baby, who was still inside. The window to the baby's room was broken and Mr. Decloet was hoisted up to the opening. He looked inside and could barely see the little girl through the smoke, far inside the room. He climbed in and crawled over to her. Grabbing hold of her, Mr. Decloet quickly brought her back to the window and handed her outside to safety. Shortly after they left the building, it was completely engulfed in flames.
