The following comments are hypotheses only. A white chevron, two cinquefoils and a sword on a red background are common to the arms of individuals bearing the surname Doig or Doeg. The boat with the mariners is likely based on the seal of the burgh of Kilrenny in Scotland, the location of the fishing village of Cellardyke, which was the home of Mr. Doig’s great-grandfather, a fisherman. The star is a Scottish method of differencing. |
