Blazon

Ermine a pallium Azure charged with the crozier of St. Fillan proper, all within a bordure Gules;

Symbolism

The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The crozier of St. Fillan represents Mr. Dewar’s family’s role as the hereditary guardians of the relics of St. Fillan, which include the saint’s crozier, or pastoral staff. The pallium, which is sometimes worn by abbots, is also a reference to St. Fillan, who was the abbot of a monastery in Fife, Scotland. The red border is a Scottish method of differencing.

Crest

Blazon

A paschal lamb proper bearing a banner Azure charged in the hoist with a saltire Argent;

Symbolism

The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The paschal lamb holding a banner of St. Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland, is likely taken from the arms of the city of Perth, in Scotland, where the Dewar family originates. The lamb is a symbol of St. John the Baptist, the patron of the city.

Motto

Blazon

ALLENARLY GOD AND THE KING;

This Scots phrase means “Only God and the King.”
