Symbolism

Blue is a colour frequently associated with police forces and therefore represents Chief LaGrange’s career as a police officer. The Trinity knot embodies his Christian faith. Its separate elements represent his three children, while the ring symbolizes the bond that he shares with his wife. The upper portion of the shield alludes to a protective cloak, referencing once more his work, while the roses represent Alberta, his home province.

Symbolism

The winged knight alludes to the Archangel Michael, who is the patron saint of police officers. His kneeling position indicates humility, while the wings wrapped protectively around his sides, as well as the reference to a warrior with a sword, embody the protective role of police officers.

This Latin expression, which is taken from the Bible, means “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9). It alludes to Chief LaGrange’s faith and to his views on the role of police officers in society.
