Arms of François Caron

Blazon

Gules a lion passant guardant on a sword Or hilted Azure, on a chief wavy Or a sun in splendour rising Azure;

Symbolism

The lion honours Mr. Caron’s ancestors, originally from Normandy, a French province whose arms bear two yellow lions on a red background. The sword recalls Mr. Caron’s career as an infantry officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. The sun, a source of life and a symbol of immortality, represents the sunsets at L’Islet-sur-Mer, where Mr. Caron comes from. The wavy division line symbolizes the St. Lawrence valley and river.

Crest

Blazon

A phoenix Gules semé of crosses Argent rising from flames Or all issuant from a coronet flory Azure;

Symbolism

The phoenix, a symbol of the resurrection of Christ, represents Mr. Caron’s determination in the face of life’s trials. The white crosses recall those of the arms and flag of the Order of Malta, in which he works to defend the faith and provide assistance to the needy. In addition to indicating Mr. Caron’s passion for genealogy, which has led him to discover ancestors within France’s royal families, the fleur-de-lis for him symbolizes the ideal of Christianity and chivalry.

Motto

Blazon

This pun on the name Caron, meaning “Because we hold strong”, expresses the strength of character of the Carons and recalls the fact that the family has been rooted in Canada since the first half of the 17th century.
