Arms of Colin Simpson Lazier

Blazon

Azure on a fess between three mullets Argent a balance Gules;

Symbolism

The shield design is based on arms used by people named Le Sueur, a blue shield with three silver stars on it. Mr. Lazier is in direct paternal descent from François Le Sueur, who was born in France in 1625 and who immigrated to New Amsterdam in 1657. This shield has been differenced by the addition of the white fess, on which is placed a red balance, symbolic of the law. This indicates the deep involvement that the family has had with the law: Mr. Lazier is a retired judge; his father was a judge; his grandfather was a lawyer; and his three sons and a granddaughter are lawyers.

Crest

Blazon

Issuant from an astral crown Argent, the circlet Azure, a demi double headed eagle Gules beaked and charged on the breast with a maple leaf Argent;

Symbolism

The double-headed eagle is taken from the badge of RAF Squadron 107, with which Mr. Lazier served in the Second World War. The use of the astral coronet in sky blue furthers this reference. The eagle has been placed in the Canadian national colours of red and white and charged with a maple leaf to mark the family’s long history in Canada.

Motto

Blazon

DOCTE ET DILIGENTER;

Symbolism

DOCTE ET DILIGENTER means “With learning and with care.” It was suggested by Mr. Lazier’s friend Dr. A.G. MacKay, a retired professor of classics.
