At the request of the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Whit Fraser undertook working visits to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Kuwait, from March 17 to 23, 2022. The visits included stops in Dubai, Sharjah, Doha and Kuwait City.

While in Qatar, the Governor General met with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, and with other government representatives. During her meetings, she thanked Qatar and its people for their critical role in evacuating Canadians and their families from Afghanistan in 2021.
The Governor General also met with Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of the Qatar Foundation, to discuss the future of education.
