Master Corporal Alisha Dawn St. George, M.B.
On March 11, 2015, Master Corporal Alisha St. George, then-Corporal Fisher, saved a colleague from drowning in the ocean at Torrey Pines State Beach Park, near San Diego, California. The victim had been caught in a rip tide and was struggling to reach the shore. Seeing his predicament, Master Corporal St. George rushed into the water and, after reaching his side, held the distressed man afloat for several minutes. A lifeguard finally reached them and brought the victim to safety, while Master Corporal St. George made it back to shore on her own.
Ali Belhis, M.B.
On October 31, 2013, Ali Belhis risked his life to end a hostage-taking incident at École Gabrielle-Roy, in Surrey, British Columbia. After alerting his colleagues to the danger and calling for a lockdown of the school, Mr. Belhis confronted the hostage taker on the school yard. He spoke with the man in an effort to calm him down and to prevent him from entering the school. He continued to engage the hostage taker, pleading with him to let the child go, until the police arrived and restrained the individual.
