Arms of The Right Reverend Philip Rodger BeattieBlazonArgent on a pale Sable between in chief two mascles Gules and in base two keys wards outwards and downwards Azure, a mascle between two cross-crosslets Argent, all within a bordure indented Gules; SymbolismThe Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The white shield with two red mascles and two blue keys flanking a black vertical stripe charged with another mascle are elements found in other Scottish Beattie coats of arms. The cross-crosslets allude to Bishop Beattie’s vocation and also appear in the arms of Wycliffe College, Toronto, of which he was a graduate. The indented border is a Scottish method of differencing. |
