The Canadian Heraldic Authority does not have confirmed symbolism for this emblem. The following comments are hypotheses only. The white shield with two red mascles and two blue keys flanking a black vertical stripe charged with another mascle are elements found in other Scottish Beattie coats of arms. The cross-crosslets allude to Bishop Beattie’s vocation and also appear in the arms of Wycliffe College, Toronto, of which he was a graduate. The indented border is a Scottish method of differencing.
