Symbolism

The cross symbolizes the resurrection, while the disk at the centre symbolizes the Holy Eucharist. The dove represents the Holy Spirit. The cross and dove symbolize eternal life. The seashell traditionally represents a pilgrim. Here, it also alludes to the Centre de pèlerinage de Sainte Anne-de-Beaupré, the pilgrimage centre where Bishop Desrochers has worked with the poor for several years. The seashell also symbolizes baptism in Christ. The Marian monogram gives thanks to the vital support that the Virgin Mary provides Bishop Desrochers in his ministry and spiritual life. The Bible and sword serve as a reference to the Word of God and its omnipotence. They reflect Bishop Desrochers’ first call to the priesthood to proclaim the Word of God to the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, and his intention to continue during his episcopate. The cross, lance and sponge allude to the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, of which Bishop Desrochers has been a member since entering the novitiate in 1983. The colour green embodies hope, the colour red symbolizes the Spirit of Pentecost and the redeeming and sanctifying Blood of the Saviour, while the colour blue represents the Virgin Mary and the Kingdom of Heaven.
