Symbolism

Blue, white and red are the colours of the flag of France. The fleur-de-lis and the white symbolize the Francophonie, while the wild rose and the blue symbolize Alberta. The two diagonal bands represent the waterways and routes that French-Canadian pioneers took to explore and settle the province. Their positioning conveys the blending of communities and the mutual respect they have for one another. This symbolism is based on a variety of publicly-available sources.
