Badge of The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment)BlazonIssuant from a torse Argent and Azure a demi-lion Or gorged with a collar Azure charged with a frieze of bezants, holding between its paws a shuttle Argent, all ensigned by the Royal Crown proper and within a wreath of maple leaves Argent and thistles proper, issuant from two scrolls Sable inscribed AIR SON AR DUTHCHAIS and THE LORNE SCOTS (PEEL, DUFFERIN AND HALTON REGT) in letters Argent; SymbolismThe maple leaves represent service to Canada, and the Crown, service to the Sovereign. The wreath of thistles (the national flower of Scotland) is a common device among badges of highland infantry regiments. The lion and shuttle crest was approved as a badge for The Peel Regiment by Sir William Robert Wellesley Peel, 2nd Viscount Peel, whose grandfather was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom when Peel County was organized. “THE LORNE SCOTS” and “(PEEL, DUFFERIN AND HALTON REGT)” are a form of the regimental title, and “AIR SON AR DUTHCHAIS” is the motto of the regiment. |
