Their Excellencies visited Petawawa and Pembroke to take part in a Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR) military ceremony. As Commander-in-Chief, Governor General Mary Simon presented the CSOR with their new colours, in the form of a standard.
The Canadian Special Operations Regiment has a long history marked by exceptional contributions to international security.
The Governor General also had the privilege of visiting Madameek, a beloved Petawawa restaurant with a heartfelt story honouring fallen CFB Petawawa Trooper Marc Diab.
Diab spoke to his dad, Hani, about his dreams of bringing Lebanese cuisine to the area. They planned to open a restaurant after his deployment in Afghanistan but, tragically, Marc never returned. After his son’s death in 2009, Hani and the Diab family moved from Mississauga to Petawawa to fulfill Marc’s dream. For nearly 14 years, Madameek has been a local staple, honouring Marc’s memory and serving the community.
