Governor General presents the new guidon to The Royal Canadian Dragoons

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, presided over the Change of Guidon ceremony for The Royal Canadian Dragoons regiment at Garrison Petawawa.

The Governor General presented the guidon to the Commanding Officer of the regiment, and addressed Canadian Armed Forces members and families in attendance.

The Afghanistan Battle Honour is emblazoned on the new guidon, in honour of the unit’s service in Afghanistan.

About The Royal Canadian Dragoons
The Royal Canadian Dragoons is the most senior cavalry regiment in Canada, having been formed on December 21, 1883. The regiment has served in major conflicts, including the North-West Rebellion, the Boer War, the First and Second World Wars and, more recently, the war in Afghanistan. The Dragoons have also served in peace operations in Egypt, Cyprus, Somalia and the Balkans. The regiment currently serves as a regular force armoured unit in the 4th Canadian Division's 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, based at Garrison Petawawa, in Ontario.
