Today is about Indigenous peoples. It’s about our true history. It’s about the survivors. It’s about the children who never came home.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, will deliver the 19th annual LaFontaine-Baldwin Lecture in Calgary on October 6, 2022.

Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Whit Fraser will undertake a working visit to Iceland, from October 12 to 15, 2022, on the occasion of the Arctic Circle Assembly.

It’s a pleasure to be here in Calgary to deliver the LaFontaine-Baldwin lecture. I appreciate the efforts of the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, and my predecessor, the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, and John Ralston Saul, for bringing us all together.

Today, I am here as governor general of Canada to represent my country. I’m also here as an Indigenous person who calls the Arctic her home. I would like to thank Chairman Grimsson for inviting me to speak here today. Iceland has always been so welcoming, to me personally, and to our country.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, will invest three Companions (C.C.), seven Officers (O.C.) and 32 Members (C.M.) into the Order of Canada during a ceremony at Rideau Hall.
