Statement from the Governor General

Throughout his long life, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh devoted himself to the people of the Commonwealth and of Canada. He stood by Her Majesty The Queen for more than six decades, a constant and reassuring presence.

Today, we mark the 95th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

It was with great honour that I assumed the role of Administrator of the Government of Canada in January 2021.

As the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games come to a close, I would like to congratulate our athletes for making our country proud.

OTTAWA, Ontario—The Governor General of Canada wishes to share a message addressed to all Canadians from Her Majesty The Queen on the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:

BERLIN— My husband, Whit, and I, along with our fellow Canadian delegates, would like to thank President Steinmeier, as well as the German people, for welcoming us so warmly.

I am a proud Inuk, born in Nunavik, Quebec, in Canada’s Arctic. There are approximately 15 000 Inuit living in 15 communities across Nunavik.

On Remembrance Day, our thoughts turn to Canadian veterans who fought for our freedom and values.

Governor General Mary Simon wishes to share a message from Her Majesty The Queen regarding the floods in British Columbia.

The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General (OSGG) confirms that there was an unauthorized access to its internal network. The OSGG is working with the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security on the investigation and took immediate action to strengthen its network.

From coast to coast to coast, Canadians still bear the scars of the tragic event that unfolded on December 6, 1989, at Polytechnique Montréal.

I would like to thank the members of the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as all Canadians working in the foreign service, for their extraordinary commitment to our country. Their work continues to make a difference every day.
