Swearing-in of Members of the Ministry

The Governor General presided over a swearing-in ceremony of members of the Ministry at Rideau Hall on July 18, 2018. The ceremony began with the Clerk of the Privy Council, Michael Wernick, who sought the Governor General's consent to proceed.

If a minister-designate is not already a member of the Privy Council, he or she must take the oath of Allegiance, the Privy Councillor's Oath and the Oath of Office. If the minister-designate is already a member of the Privy Council, he or she simply takes the Oath of Office.

Mary Ng becomes Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion.

Jonathan Wilkinson, currently Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, becomes Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.

Filomena Tassi, currently Deputy Government Whip, becomes Minister of Seniors.

Bill Blair, currently Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and to the Minister of Health, becomes Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction.

Pablo Rodriguez, currently Chief Government Whip, becomes Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism.

François-Philippe Champagne, currently Minister of International Trade, becomes Minister of Infrastructure and Communities.

Carla Qualtrough, currently Minister of Public Services and Procurement, becomes Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Accessibility.

Amarjeet Sohi, currently Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, becomes Minister of Natural Resources.

Mélanie Joly, currently Minister of Canadian Heritage, becomes Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie.

James Gordon Carr, currently Minister of Natural Resources, becomes Minister of International Trade Diversification.

Dominic LeBlanc, currently Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, becomes Minister of Intergovernmental and Northern Affairs and Internal Trade. Minister LeBlanc will also become President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada.

Following the swearing-in of the last member of the Ministry, the Governor General, the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau (left), and the Clerk of the Privy Council (right) sign the oath book to formally attest the swearing-in of the ministers.
