Official Visit to Prince Edward Island

The Governor General undertook an official visit to Prince Edward Island on Monday, June 25, 2018. Upon arrival at Government House, the Governor General was officially welcomed by Her Honour the Honourable Antoinette Perry, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island.

She received military honours, including a 100-person guard of honour, the “Viceregal Salute” and a 21-gun salute from the 5th Canadian Division and the National Band of the Naval Reserve.

Her Excellency had the opportunity to meet with Canadians.

Her Excellency met with Her Honour the Honourable Antoinette Perry, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, and the Honourable H. Wade MacLauchlan, Premier of Prince Edward Island. She offered them a photo of their province taken from space.

Her Excellency then toured the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering where she learned about some of the innovative projects being developed by UPEI faculty, staff and student teams.

During the visit, she stopped at the UPEI Climate Lab in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre to learn about CLIVE (Coastal Impacts Visualization Environment).

After covering more than 10.5 million kilometres in space on mission STS-127 in 2009, the Lennie Gallant CD has been returned to him in his home province of Prince Edward Island.

The Governor General then participated in a round-table discussion with business, research and government partners from the Prince Edward Island BioAlliance on collaboration and innovation in the province’s bioscience sector.
